7 Months

We have got one busy little boy on our hands here!  I had forgotten how much can happen in a month's time with a baby.  Ben is now very mobile, crawling quickly, and just in the last couple of days is starting to pull up on things.  We found him kneeling in his crib, hands on rails the other day, so the mattress got lowered tout suite!  He is in the process of cutting FOUR teeth.  Ouch.  Sleep is a desperate situation here, but we are enjoying watching our two little buggaloos grow and play together.  Lexi is enjoying preschool, and is very much into playing games and using her imagination these days.  Fingers crossed that Spring is just around the corner, as we are tired of the rain and itching to get outside and enjoy our new deck!

4 months, rolling, and another Top 40 Hit by Lexi

Quick - name that tune Lexi is singing!

The 4 month headlines:  cutting 2 teeth, rolling (since a few days ago), up twice a night, laughing constantly, around 15 pounds.

This little guy is growing like crazy and already cutting his first teeth!  Stay tuned for the Halloween pictures from tonight!

2 months!

Can't believe the little guy is 2 months old already.  He's a big boy - I'm guessing around 13 pounds.  I think he's shaping up to be a mommy's boy.  He seems to like to be held all the time during daytime hours which make naps difficult (thank god for baby carriers!)  As you can see from our video, he is smiling, laughing and starting to coo at us.  Here's hoping that there is some good quality sleep in our future!

one month

Our sweet boy is a month old already.  Despite the major lack of sleep around here, we are doing well and enjoying our time as a foursome.  Hopefully you got a chance to see the pictures from our family photo shoot with Zoe - if not, please let me know and I will send you a link to the pictures.

It's my Party and I'll Cry if I Want to...

We had a grand time at Lexi's birthday party last weekend. Unfortunately before the big cake and song moment, Lexi got a boo-boo on her arm and cried throughout the whole tune. One for the memory books I guess. Thanks to all who came and made the day so fun for Lexi.

Look at me, I'm 3!

We celebrated Lexi's 3rd birthday yesterday with a fairly low key day - it was a Thursday so I was already off work. Lexi and I had doctor's appointments, then we had a little trip to the toy store to pick out a present. Daddy was also home (recouping from some nose surgery) so we all got to be together. After dinner, Lexi was looking forward to blowing out the candles on her birthday brownie. (PS - While watching the video, check out the squirrel acrobatics in the tree outside the window at the 30 second mark).

Party on Sunday!

The Hunt!

We did the 2nd annual Easter Egg Hunt today - the weather was gorgeous and we all enjoyed some snacks and beers on the deck in the sunshine when we were finished (OK, I did not enjoy a beer, but I wish I could have). The kids all shared their loot and helped each other find their treats. Tomorrow is turkey time hosted by me, and then I get the bonus Monday off. A great weekend!

Sledding Fun

Some winter fun on our front lawn, February 27

We made the Jumbotron at Rogers!

Doug, Lexi and I went to the Canucks Superskills Competition today. It was a really fun family event, and many of the Canucks had their own kids on the ice with them today. Before the event started, we made it onto the big screen (well, it was mostly Lexi's dancing talents that did it). Enjoy!

Art Smarts

OK, I'm going to go into full on mommy bragging mode now. I always knew Lexi had good fine motor skills - she could spoon feed herself early, and could always grip a pencil properly. Today I caught her drawing her first actual decipherable picture of "guys." Who are "in trouble." Ah, the mind of a two and a half year old. Note the eyes, mouths, and arms.

The video got cut short due to a full memory card. I just can't bring myself to erase old pictures. And yes, I've already downloaded them to my computer. Call me sentimental I suppose.

Lexi has been doing a lot of coloring and TV watching the last few days as I have been hit hard with the flu. It came on quickly and was intense for a couple of days. The worst seems to be over and I should be able to head back to work tomorrow to the insanity of a Halloween party for twenty three 6 year olds. Don't forget the Tylenol.

Fabulous or Fug-tastic?

I've always loved reading the quick-witted fashion review site called Go Fug Yourself. While folding laundry today, Lexi decided to try on an advant guard outfit of her own. So what do you think: fabulous, or fug-tastic?

Off to the Zoo!

Now that summer is upon us, and Lexi is at that age where she is a little more portable and we don't have to be slaves to the almighty naptime, I am hell bent and determined to get out and enjoy everything that Vancouver has to offer tourists and little people alike.

During the stinkin' hot few days we had last week, we were graciously invited out to Auntie Jess and Uncle Dave's pool, and got to witness Tommy's first dip. Judging by the amount of kicking and screaming as we exited, we will have to visit again, and perhaps pick up some waterwings!

Wednesday morning we hit up Maplewood Farms with Oma in North Vancouver. Lexi was fascinated with a little turkey and the miniature ponies (she wanted to ride them, but alas that is not permitted), and she loved being able to pet the baby goats. For the low low price of $3, you could buy a bag of birdseed to feed the ducks and chickens (for $3, I was considering eating it as MY snack) and after a too close encounter with an overzealous goose, we decided it was time to head out for lunch. I managed to snap one picture of Lexi on a mini tractor pedal bike, but it was just on my cell phone, and since I'm a bit of a dunce, I can't figure out how to download pictures off of it.

Yesterday we hit up the Vancouver Zoo nice and early. A little bonus perk I received at work from the PAC this year was a free Entertainment Book, so I used a 2 for 1 admission so Jess and Tommy could join us (you too can view animals at a distance for the low, low price for $22!! but at least children under 3 are free). I brought the stroller, although Lexi seems to prefer to walk most places these days. I was pleasantly surprised at the abundance of animals they had, including the infamous hippos featured in the love-to-hate 'Telus' commercials.

I asked Lexi which animals she wanted to see before we got there, to which she replied "a mommy giraffe, a daddy giraffe, and a baby giraffe." Luckily we were not disappointed.

We wandered around the park, stopping to gawk at the lions sunbathing, the pink flamingos, some rather large and unfriendly looking boars and elands. She was, of course, fascinated with the 'hippo-thomases' but would not stay still for a picture.

By 11, the mommies were starving, so we stopped for a hotdog. Jess and Tommy headed home and I relented and decided to hop on the train with Lexi after stowing the stroller back in the car and doing a quick diaper change. It was a quick 15 minute ride, but we got a better look at some of the animals we hadn't seen yet like the ancient rhino, the ostriches, the exotic birds and the daddy lion with his two daughters. I've since decided to become a male lion in my next life, which would preclude me to days of 2o hour naps while my 'lady friends' do all the hunting and gathering. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

So on my short list this summer: Science World, the Vancouver Aquarium (Lexi has been a couple times before and LOVED it), berry picking, beaching in Kits, train riding in Confederation Park, swimming, and the spray park at Rocky Point. Any other fun ideas for me? Got sunscreen, willing to travel...

I'm Two, the Final Reflection...

I'm sure it's something you've heard a thousand times without really thinking about what it means. "They grow up so fast." It's something that people say all the time along with "be thankful for your health" and "be careful with your money." And then you have children of your own, and you start to understand why people say these things. You change diaper after diaper. You wipe noses, faces and hands. You slice thousands of bananas, wash two thousand onesies, and walk hundreds of miles with the stroller in the hopes that your little one will take a nap. Then you sneak into her room one night when she's asleep and watch her sweet little face and realize she is a baby no longer. It all goes by in the blink of an eye. You move up diaper sizes, shoes sizes, clothes sizes. They get more teeth and bigger beds. Then one day it happens for the first time. They say "No Mommy, I do it myself." Then that painful process starts when you come to realize that they won't need you forever, and they won't run to you every time there is a bumped knee and hurt feelings. I will admit there were times in the first year when the responsibility felt overwhelming and I wondered if I would ever be able to remember myself as just me and not "Lexi's mommy." Now I know that as she needs me less and less it will be so much harder for me to let go of her than it will be for her to let go of me. So as this slow and painful process of letting go starts for us, I will make sure to take the time in the next year to enjoy the "mundane" every day moments, as I have heard that these are the ones that parents miss the most after their babies have grown and flown the nest to live their lives. Happy Birthday Sweet Pea.

I'm Two, Part II

A few pictures from Lexi's birthday dinner. We had spaghetti and meatballs (Lexi's favorite) and cupcakes for dessert made by Oma. She managed to blow out her candle all by herself. And she LOVES her new tutu pyjamas...

Party is in T minus 4 hours. Will post some pictures tomorrow!

TWO!

Two years ago today, Lexi made her way into the world on her due date (a true punctual teacher's child). It's been non-stop fun ever since. We started the day with presents. We decided to get her the Tag Junior Reader on the recommendation from a couple of friends, and she seems to like it. It's basically a little hand held wand that you can pass over special board books that reads them and makes sounds. She got to spend the day with Oma while Mommy and Daddy worked, and of course she got spoiled with cupcakes, helium balloons and gifts galore. Her party will be on Saturday here at the house.

The Two Year Progress Report:

Height: 82 cm (52 at birth)

Weight: about 24 pounds (we'll find out Friday at the doctor's for sure) (8 pounds at birth)

Teeth: 16 - still waiting on her molars (gee, won't that be fun)

Hair: Yes, she finally has some (as evidenced by the pigtails in the video above)

Words: way too many to list but my current favorite is "hippo-thomas" for hippopotamus. She is speaking in sentences and can even use pronouns.

Potty Training: we're working on it, going hard core in the summer when I'm off work

Favorite foods: rice noodles, cookies (opps), spaghetti and meatballs, yogurt, fruit, toast, cheerios and milk

For fun we: look for squirrels and birds in our backyard, read, read, read, play paperdolls (color), go for walks, help Mommy cook, play with "Bruce" (Brutus, Oma's dog)

Can't wait to see what the next year brings. I'll post some pics of the birthday party next weekend!

Our Little Naturalist

It's amazing to me the sheer number of words Lexi is able to remember these days, usually after hearing them only once. Pappy and Nana will be so proud...
