Showing off my new skills
Lexi is waving "bye bye" and "hi" in the last week. It's amazing how quick they learn at this age. Lexi's Nana is coming for a visit tonight so Mommy and Daddy can go out and enjoy a nice dinner. Every year Doug and I go out to a restaurant during Dine Out Vancouver week. This year, it will be the Boathouse Restaurant in Port Moody. Ah, wine, steak, an uninterrupted meal with adult conversation... Who are we kidding, we all know we'll end up talking about Lexi the whole time...

Rub a dub dub, fun in the tub
After the first few initial baths we inexperienced parents gave our newborn, Lexi seemed to enjoy her tub time. It's part of her nightly bedtime routine that we've been doing since she was a wee little one of two months old. She often ends up accidentally giving Mommy a bath in the process as she loves to kick and splash. She's got a few bath toys that she likes to play with (the squirting bear and frog Daddy got her at Carters are the favs), and she just recently began sitting up (instead of reclining) to explore the territory - the game of "pull out the bath plug, Mommy puts it back in" never seems to get old. Daddy's job is to towel me off after I'm done.
(PS - Like my new teeth? Both of them?)

A new year, a new...
-TOOTH! Finally Lexi's top teeth, which have been threatening to poke through the gumline for months, have erupted. Well, her right top tooth has broken the surface, the left will happen any day now.
-favorite food (or two). We tried yogurt earlier this week (plain). She likes it, as long as it's mixed with fruit. We also gave her Cheerios yesterday for the first time and she LOVES them. I think it's more about the fact that she can feed them to herself.
-gym pass (for me, not Lexi). I got a 4 month pass for Burnaby Parks and Rec so I can do fitness classes, Aquafit, swim or go to the gym. I plan to get out one night a week, and Lexi and Daddy can enjoy some quality time together (and Lexi can learn that it's OK if Daddy puts me to bed once in a while too!)

Almost 8 months later - what has changed...
I can't believe Lexi will soon be 8 months old. As we have also just turned the corner into a new year, I thought it would be a good time to look back and reflect on what has changed in my life since she was born:
- while I used to enjoy 9 G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S hours of sleep per night (well, before my third trimester of pregnancy at least, after which I become way too huge and uncomfortable to get any proper rest) I now survive on 6-7 hours of broken sleep each night, as I'm still getting up to feed 3-4 times per night
- I have lovely clothes in my closet, I really do. I used to consider myself kinda fashionable. Now I wear yoga pants, T-shirts and runners most days (on a dress up day I wear jeans)
- My hair has gone through more changes lately than Madonna did at her concert in October. None of my hair fell out while I was pregnant, then almost ALL of it fell out 3 months after Lexi was born. Now I'm sporting some lovely tufts of regrowth all over my head which I'm sure will lead to a mullet like look in several more months
- dates with my husband? What's a date?
- I can wolf down a plate of food (and a LARGE plate at that) in record time
- at least five times a day I say "Oh my god, she is so cute"
- I give approximately 5631 kisses a day
- a giggle and a "mum mum" directed my way makes my whole day
- I have a whole new appreciation for my husband, who is a damn fine father and partner
- you learn that life is good, no matter how little sleep you get, because your baby is healthy, happy and thriving
